Leading with Integrity

In order to develop that long term residual income that comes with Network Marketing, we have to be able to attract, empower, inspire and motivate a large group of people.  We do that through leadership with integrity.  Without integrity, what we build today will crumble tomorrow.

What is Integrity?  This definition comes from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

Being a leader requires that we set our standards for ourselves high.  That doesn't mean we need to be arrogant. But we have defined our principles, values and convictions and are prepared to take a stand even if it is not a popular thing to do.  We draw the line between what we consider to be ethical and unethical behavior.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Leading with integrity is one of the great challenges of leadership as a whole. Being a leader with integrity means we not only stand up for our beliefs, but respect other's beliefs. It requires that we lead by example. That we build trust and credibility, demonstrate self control, pay attention to what end we use our authority and expertise, ensure we lead with compassion, with honesty and are the person we would chose to follow.  (I discussed this in a recent post.)

Leading with integrity is not something we can do on a part-time basis or only when we think others are watching.  It is not something we should only be concerned with when building our business, working with our prospects or working with our team.

There’s a great book called “Lincoln on Leadership” by Donald T. Philips.  Though I’m not a big history buff, I found this book to be fascinating and enlightening.  “Honest Abe” led this country with a great deal of integrity.

Ask yourself, “Am I leading with integrity or am I just leading?” Ask yourself also “Am I following those who lead with integrity?” Again, without integrity, what we build today will crumble tomorrow.
